I just spent the weekend learning about new plotting methods, character development and dialogue with the NYTimes Bestseller Cherry Adair. What a hoot she is!
While her session was about the mechanics of writing, I got to spend a little bit of time chatting with her about her marketing. What struck me the most was her Facebook. The woman runs 12 Facebook pages, herself. Yes, twelve!
I’ve been to three Pikes Peak Writers Conferences, and am headed back to Colorado tomorrow for my fourth. I thought it was about time I figure out why I keep going back.
Why I went in the first place
Four years ago, I was home fresh from a deployment to Afghanistan and looking for a creative outlet for my writing. I was also a freshly minted Reservist and for the first time in over a decade, didn’t have a full-time job.
Naively, I thought I could punch out a couple of books and embark on a long and fruitful writing career. We were stationed in Colorado Springs and after a quick Google search, I found Pikes Peak Writers, a nonprofit organization whose mission was to support aspiring and established writers.
It was a sign!
I recently released my third novel, Surrender the Heat. Like most writers, I completed quite a few revisions before the release. One requested change from a beta reader was the addition of an epilogue to “find out what happens to the heroine” and “to hint at the next book.” My first novel did not include an epilogue, but my second did. I added a brief epilogue to Surrender the Heat and must admit—it really did improve the ending.
I have found something that I think will save lives, and I want to shout it from the rooftops — a plant-based diet!
You do not have to accept that when you get older, you’ll get sick.
You do not have to accept that just because your parents had cancer or diabetes that you will too.
You do not have to accept that pills are the only path to good health.
Want to know how? By eating a plant-based diet. And guess what, the federal government finally agrees!
Have you ever noticed that every time you go to the doctor, they prescribe medicine? It’s like that is all you go to the doc for these days. Ailment? Med. Nose bleed? Med. Sniffles? Med. That really bothers me and I want another avenue.
